  • 22 Lessons

In this course we'll practice my EARLY INTERMEDIATE arrangement, “For the Beauty of the Earth”. I’ll guide you through the challenging spots in the arrangement. I’ll provide the structure and support you need to master playing slowly with the metronome. We’ll also examine the elements that bring artistry to your performance.

Is this course for you?

This course is gently paced for early intermediate level players who are able to read music. You should be able to play hands together with the correct fingering and brackets.

You are looking for guidance to help you learn to play slowly with the metronome. You want to build a strong foundation in your playing with support and encouragement to make learning enjoyable.

What do I need?

You will need to purchase, download and print the sheet music from the Music Discoveries Shop. The course does not include sheet music.

The arrangement and course are best suited for harps with 34+ strings. However, the sheet music download includes a bonus version for small harps. If your lowest string is Bass C (one octave below Middle C) please follow along using the small harp version.

Course Overview

The course is organized into 4 Modules (22 lessons) for roughly 45 minutes of instruction.

Introduction

We'll get started  with an overview of the course along with what you need to get started. Watch the performance video for inspiration and learn the background history on this well-loved hymn.

The Basics Phase

In the BASICS PHASE you’re focusing on working out note reading, counting, fingering and brackets.  At this level I’m going to assume that you’re fairly fluent at reading music and playing hands together, so I'll be offering 8 tips to highlight some of the more challenging spots that may need special attention.

The Skills Phase

Now you’re ready to focus on playing slow and steady and with good accuracy. This is the phase where you should play with a metronome and practice in short sections. In the next set of lessons I’ll play each section with the metronome so you can practice playing along with me. Repeat these videos as often as you need to make sure you’ve mastered the SKILLS PHASE.

The Artistry Phase

Now you are ready to move toward the ARTISTRY PHASE and explore how to play with more expression. In this piece the two most important elements are tempo and dynamics. You will receive a complimentary audio track for inspiration and we will map through the dynamic markings for the entire piece.

"I love being able to replay the lessons.  It's like always having Anne there to guide me through the piece and instruct me on how to practice effectively.  Being able to replay lessons and to have a play along of the whole piece is very helpful for building my skills and confidence."

Nancy

"This course has given me the discipline to play along with a metronome. I also like her explanations of different techniques and little tricks that make the piece easier to master. It has made learning the piece efficient and fun!"

Linda

"I think the 8 tips were unique in that it gave me the opportunity to practice any potentially difficult areas beforehand. Another unique aspect of the 8 tips was that I learned techniques which I had not yet come across ie thumb-slide and a new way of playing rolled chords."
